The International Court that presided over the downing of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 over eastern Ukraine on 17 July 2014 delivered its findings in November 2022. The Court, the District Court of the Hague, determined that the plane was brought down by Russian separatists with a surface-to-air missile fired from a unit known as a Buk TELAR, and three of the separatists, who were tried in absentia, were found responsible for the deaths of the 298 people on board. The Court, however, considered it to have been an accident. It said that the separatists had been intending to shoot a Ukrainian military jet and had struck MH17 in error.

Two possibilities
1 Cowboy incompetent missile battery that assumed the large IL76 military transport was Ukrainian inbound at 32,000 feet. Maybe Donetsk separatists did the actual Firing under slack Russian supervision. Have seen an IL76 on my airborne radar.
2 Deliberate shoot down of the B777 – orders from higher up the food chain. Modern radar target discrimination and computer analysis should have confirmed a much larger 64 metre long aircraft. Travelling at B777 M.84 is considerably faster than IL76 M.72 and computer MTI would have shown this.
Putin immediately blamed shootdown on a Ukrainian Su25 fighter/bomber ground attack aircraft. I immediately wrote a published article in the Daily Telegraph that Putin was lying. A Su25 has I/R homing Vympel missiles with a small 7 kg warhead that would have homed on the heat source of an engine. Doubtful it would actually bring down a B777 and just damage an engine. As well the SLUF ( slow low ugly fellow ) could not have achieved a weapons envelope firing solution ( rear quarter ) on the much faster B777. MH17 was shattered by a front quarter large fragmentation warhead ie. BUK ________________________________
