MH370 was a flight to Beijing. More than half of the people on board were Chinese nationals returning home and the cargo was all China-owned. Accordingly, if there are two facts associated with MH370 on which everyone can agree, one is that a Boeing 777 vanished from the earth in an unprecedented twenty-first century event, and the other is that the government most intimately connected with the flight in terms of route, cargo, and lives lost, is one that is known for its leadership in the arts of deception, destruction of evidence and manipulation of narratives. These two facts sit side-by-side yet western investigators pore over them and conclude this to be ‘the greatest aviation mystery of all time’.
Then, four months after the disappearance of MH370, another Malaysian Airlines flight, MH17, was mysteriously shot down over Russia-controlled Eastern Ukraine on the orders of the Russian President, the ally of the Chinese President. If the CCP was responsible for the disappearance of MH370, the downing of a second Malaysian Airlines flight could create a perception of a metaphysical curse on Malaysian Airlines, one that is consistent with traditional Buddhist and Tao philosophies of karma. What was happening to Malaysian Airlines, the Chinese people would believe, was nothing to do with a mistake of their own government as the plane flew over the South China Sea, where military drills were being undertaken by the US and its Asian allies. Rather, it was attributable to karmic forces affecting Malaysia. A paranoid Xi would never arrange such a thing with Putin? He would never resort to a measure so depraved merely in the hope of turning Ancient Eastern Thought to his advantage?
